Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA)
As a Clinical Medical Assistant students will have many doors of opportunity open in the healthcare arena. The CMA (or MA) works in a doctor’s office or clinic setting. Medical Assisting is the 6th fastest growing job in the US according to the Department of Labor. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Health Services” is the fastest growing industry after computers.
Graduates will be qualified to take the optional certification examination for Medical Assisting offered by the National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT.) This program was designed to provide thorough didactic and practical instruction for as an overview of the role of the medical assistant in a clinical setting. Didactic lectures cover the theory and terminology pertaining to different systems. Practical instruction provides hands-on training in the listed procedures verified through a skills check-off system. This course combines classroom instruction of 140 hours and off-site externship of 160 hours to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience.

Non-Certified Radiological Technician (NCRT)
In the Non Certified Radiological Technician courses students will learn the fundamental diagnostic radiological procedures to prepare individuals for a career as a Non-Certified Radiological Technician. Topics will include radiation safety and protection for the patient, self and others, image production and evaluation, radio-graphic equipment maintenance and operation, quality control, darkroom, processing, and Texas Regulations for Control of Radiation. Students will also learn applied human anatomy and radiological procedures of the skull, chest, spine, abdomen, upper extremities. Financial assistance may be available to students who qualify.
NCRT Course Descriptions
Introduction to Radiology - 48 Hours
An overview of the historical development of radiography, basic radiation protection and procedures, an introduction to medical terminology, ethical and legal issues for health care professionals, and an orientation to the profession and the health care system.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Define basic medical terms; identify ethical and legal standards; explain basic radiation protection practices; perform basic radiation procedures and relate the role of radiography to health care This course is in a classroom setting. Students will meet 2 evenings/week and also be required to partake in 2-4 hours of radiological observation/week.
Radio-graphic Image Evaluation I - 80 hours
Course Description: Scientific process of radio-graphic image evaluation.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Analyze the positioning and technical qualities of a radio-graphic image. This course is in a classroom setting. You will meet 2 evenings/week and be required to partake in 2-4 hours of radiological observation/week.
NOTE: The NCRT courses cannot be taken alone.
