Introduction to CNC, One-Day Workshop  FREE!
In this FREE one-day workshop you will learn 10 basic G and M Codes, how to set a Z zero on a lathe, and how to cut chess pieces on the lathe.  Attendees take home a chess piece as a souvenir!  Students must register for the class prior to the start date.

NCCER Millwright 160-Hour Program  New Program!

Alvin Community College's new 160-hour Millwright program will prepare you for the necessary skills to enter the workforce. The program follows the National Center of Construction Education Research (NCCER) Level 1 guidelines.  The program consists of two courses.  The courses are the NCCER Core and NCCER Millwright Level 1.  Students must take the NCCER Core before enrolling in the NCCER Millwright Level 1 course.  The program will introduce you to the many different skills in the millwright trade.  This hands-on program will teach you how to use basic hand and power tools and review various fasteners.  You will learn about common blueprint symbols and be able to demonstrated different layout techniques.  You will discuss and demonstrate the safe use of manual lathes and mills in basic cutting concepts and techniques.  You will be able to demonstrate the use of various indicators for the purpose of aligning parts to the machine.   Upon successful to the two courses you will be prepared for NCCER Level 1 testing.  Total tuition and fees for the 160-hour program is $2,100.00 for in-district students and $2,140 for out-of-district students.

Machining Special Interest Classes

Machine Shop Immersion Class  Night Classes!
This course is designed to simulate a real shop environment and experience in a fully functioning machine shop with the opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of a manufacturing facility to include: CAD design and code development using computer software; set-up and operation of Haas CNC mills and lathes as well as manual lathes and mills, also fixture design and development, cost estimating, inspection, and quality control. The student will be able to use various inspection equipment, calibrate cutting tools and set zero positions, read multiple styles of indicators and indicate a part in a 4-jaw chuck. 
COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age of 18 years.

Fundamentals of Laser Operations
  Night Class!
Students will gain hands-on experience with basic set-up and operation with an emphasis on safety, material removal, cutting processes and design creation using CorelDRAW X7. End-of-course outcome: Learn to safely set-up and operate an Epilog Helix C02 Laser System on multiple mediums including wood, stone, coated metal, acrylic, and others. Prerequisite: Experience with CorelDRAW or similar graphic software.
