May 2017 Commencement Ceremony

May 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at ACC.

Graduates are encouraged to participate in commencement ceremonies. ACC conducts a commencement ceremony in December for fall graduates and in May for spring graduates.  In order for a student to qualify to participate in the May ceremony, they must have completed their courses and met their degree or certificate requirements during the spring semester OR they must be currently registered (and paid in full) in their last courses (12 hours maximum during summer) with anticipated completion by the end of the summer semester.  The deadline for May graduation application is April 13, 2017.

Graduates who indicate that they will participate in the ACC commencement ceremony will receive email correspondence several weeks prior to the day of commencement. Graduates should make sure to have a current email address in the ACC system as most graduation/commencement correspondence will be sent through email.  Important items to remember are:
  • Two commencement orientation sessions for those participating in commencement will be held.  It is very important to attend one orientation to obtain guest tickets and graduation information and procedures.You may attend the orientation that is most convenient for you.
    • May 3, 2017 in C227 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. 
    • May 4, 2017 in C227 from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
    • (C227 is located above the childcare area/classrooms)
  • Graduation Reception: May 3, 2017 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the student center

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for graduation?

ACC utilizes an “auto-grad” process, however students must complete a graduation application by the dates published in the academic calendar. No application fee is required to apply for graduation.  More details will become available closer to commencement.

Which commencement will I participate in?

If you anticipate completing the necessary degree or certificate requirements in August or December, you may participate in ACC’s December commencement ceremony.

If you anticipate completing the necessary degree or certificate requirements in May, you may participate in ACC’s commencement ceremony to be held on May 13, 2017.

Will there be an information session/orientation?

Yes, informational orientation times and locations will be announced prior to the commencement ceremony.  Students will be informed in advance. 

Where do I purchase my cap and gown and other graduation items?

Graduation items can be purchased at the ACC Bookstore.

What should I wear to my commencement ceremony?

Students are required to wear a black cap and gown with no alterations to either.  It is suggested that graduates dress in accordance with the formality of this special occasion.  Please consider that high heeled shoes or boots can be a safety hazard when wearing the graduation regalia.  More information will be provided at orientation.

What should I bring to commencement?

Cap, tassel (worn on right temple before commencement) and gown. Make arrangements for a family member/friend to secure your other personal items such as purses, backpacks, flowers, balloons, etc. Items will not be held for guests or students.

Where is commencement held and how do I obtain tickets for my family and friends to attend?

Commencement ceremonies are held at the ACC campus in the gym with guests’ admittance by ticket only. Tickets for family and friends will first be distributed to graduates at the scheduled rehearsal orientation. An email with this information will be sent several weeks prior to commencement. 

Closed circuit viewing of the ceremony is provided in the ACC Theater to accommodate guests without tickets or those guests who arrive after the ceremony begins. There is no late seating in the gym once the ceremony begins and tickets do not guarantee a seat after the ceremony has begun.

*Guests with special seating requests must call 281-756-3533 one week in advance to reserve seating or other accommodations and should arrive 40 minutes prior to the ceremony.

Can guests view the ceremony online?

Yes, ACC provides live stream viewing at www.alvincollege.edu.

Will there be a photographer at commencement?

A professional photographer will be present to take photos of each graduate.  Students are not obligated to purchase photos.

How much time should I allow for the commencement ceremony?

Allow approximately 60-90 minutes for the ceremony itself.
