Civilian Handgun Courses - Schedule

Firearms Safety Course - $25

Alvin Campus

Basic Handgun Safety and Familiarization (4 hrs) - This course is designed for persons with little or no experience with handguns and will teach students basic handgun safety, the elements of gun safety and basic handgun operation. Students will not need to possess a handgun to attend this class. A variety of handguns will be provided to the students however, students may bring their personal handgun. NO AMMUNITION will be permitted. There will be no live fire exercises during this course. This course is the preparatory course for Basic Handgun Marksmanship. Age 18 or older, 15-17 with parent.

Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Handgun Marksmanship

Basic Handgun Marksmanship - $85

Alvin Campus

Students will learn and practice the basic principles of handgun marksmanship and safety. This course is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in the Basic Handgun Safety & Familiarization course. Students will fire approximately 150 rounds of live ammunition (ammunition supplied by College). Students need not possess a handgun, a variety of handguns will be provided at the range, however; students may bring their personal handgun (NO AMMUNITION). Weapons that are deemed unsafe by the Instructor will not be allowed on the range. Students will be expected to demonstrate familiarity and safe handgun techniques with their handgun. Any actions deemed unsafe by the Instructors will result in the student being removed from the range. Any student removed from the range due to safety violations will not be allowed to finish this course, and may not attend this course again until they successfully complete the Basic Handgun Safety & Familiarization. Minimum age to attend is 18. The course does not require that you have a License To Carry to attend; however, you must be able to legally possess a handgun under State/Federal law.

Intermediate Handgun Marksmanship - $100

Alvin Campus

This course is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in the Basic handgun marksmanship course. Students will be introduced to longer shooting distances, time fire drills and timed reloading drills. Students will be required to have two magazines for their weapon. Prerequisite: Students must have completed the Basic Handgun Marksmanship course. The course does not require that you have a License To Carry to attend; however, you must be able to legally possess a handgun under State/Federal law. Ammunition provided.

Advanced Handgun Marksmanship - $125

Alvin Campus

This course will build upon the knowledge gained in the Intermediate Handgun Marksmanship course, students will be introduced to longer shooting distances, timed fire drills, timed reloading drills, target identification drills, various lighting conditions, movement, multiple targets and shooting under stress. Students will be required to have two magazines for their weapon. Prerequisites: Students must have completed the Intermediate Handgun Marksmanship course. The courses do not require that you have a License To Carry to attend; however, you must be able to legally possess a handgun under State/Federal law. Ammunition Provided.

License To Carry

This course is designed for those desiring qualification to obtain a License To Carry a handgun. Course topics meet the requirements of the State of Texas. State law requires applicants pass a written test and demonstration of proficiency with the handgun. Necessary training materials and equipment are provided. Minimum age: 21 years. Student should register a minimum of 5 days in advance of the course date. Tuition fee includes weapon, target and ammunition. After successful completion of license class, student will complete the online license application and mail required documents along with the required fee for the license to Texas Department of Public Safety. THIS IS NOT A CLASS FOR SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SAFELY OPERATE AND FIRE A HANDGUN. It is recommended a student bring own handgun (unloaded) to class as student is more familiar with using their own equipment. Students should bring a light lunch or snack and beverage; the class does not offer a designated/scheduled lunch break.
