The transition program is designed to provide a pathway from Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to Registered Nurse (RN). The program is one-year in length, with credit given for experience as an LVN.
A new nursing class begins each May and applications are accepted from January thru the first week of March. Applicants meeting minimum admission requirements become part of an applicant pool and the nursing program admits the top applicants from this pool.
The Associate Degree Nursing Transition program is accredited by the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Our graduates consistently perform above state and national averages on the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. ADN pass rates for first time testers:
Year 2007 - 98%, Year 2006 - 100%, Year 2005 - 96.55%, Year 2004 - 94.23%, Year 2003 - 100%.
Job opportunities for RNs are expected to be very good. Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2016. Thousands of job openings also will result from the need to replace experienced nurses who leave the occupation, especially as the age of the registered nurse population continues to rise.
According to Salary.com, the U.S. National average median annual earnings of a registered nurse is $59,577. The middle 50 percent earn between $54,049 and $65,105. Many employers offer flexible work schedules, child care, educational benefits, and bonuses.
