State law requires that all pyrotechnics for an audience – regardless of the size of the pyrotechnics or the audience – be fired by a licensed pyrotechnics operator. Alvin Community College is one of the few, if not the only community college in the state to have a licensed pyrotechnics operator on staff.
Eligible students train with this operator to learn types of pyrotechnics for stage and non-stage use as well as safety procedures required for use of pyrotechnics for an audience. Not only are these skills necessary for certain stage shows, but they allow many ACC activities to have an explosive edge.
