In addition to teaching at Alvin Community College, Aaron Alon has taught for Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, the American Festival for the Arts, and the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program. As a composer, he has received numerous national and international composition honors, and his works have been performed throughout the US, as well as in China, Brazil, and Slovakia. By the end of 2008, he will have works released on three CDs, from Capstone Records, the National Association of Composers, and Wild Basin Winds. His solo flute work, “Hibakusha,” was also published in the Society of Composers, Inc. Journal of Music Scores.
Mr. Alon holds a BA in music from the University of Chicago and a Master of Music degree in composition from the Cleveland Institute of Music. He expects to complete his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music in May 2009.
Mr. Alon is a member of ASCAP and a past chapter president of Mu Phi Epsilon. He remains highly active as a composer and teacher. Current compositions in progress include a new work for orchestra, an opera with librettist Michael Remson, a musical with lyricist Joe Barnes, and a cycle of songs commissioned by bass David Keck.
