The program has two pathways for students
to earn their ADN degree:
- ADN Generic . The
traditional pathway to enter the ADN program. ADN
coursework, excluding pre-requisites, is designed
for completion within 2 years. A new class of 60
students starts each August. The application period
is from January through March. Applicants meeting
minimum admission requirements become part of an
applicant pool and top applicants from this pool
are selected for admission.
- LVN-ADN Transition .
The Transition program provides an abbreviated pathway
to allow nurses who are LVN’s to earn their
ADN. A new nursing class of 10-20 students starts
in mid-May. The application period is from January
to the first week in March. Applicants meeting minimum
admission requirements become part of an applicant
pool and top applicants from this pool are selected
for admission.
The Alvin Community College Associate
Degree Nursing department provides an educational program
for individuals who are interested in a career as a
registered nurse (RN). The program is approved by the
Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) for the State of Texas.
Upon the successful completion of program requirements
the graduate is qualified to make application to write
the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered
Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Alvin Community College ADN graduates
consistently perform above state and national averages
on the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. As reported by the
BNE, the Alvin Community College ADN pass rates for
first time testers are: Year 2005- 96.55% Year
2004 – 94.23%, Year 2003 – 100%,
Year 2002 – 96.7%
- Accredited by the National League
for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- Received commendations from the BNE
for our graduates’ excellent pass rates on
the NCLEX-RN licensure exam.
- Graduates report that they typically
start their careers earning $45,000.
- Clinical affiliations are with community
hospitals as well as with hospitals in the world
famous Texas Medical Center in Houston.
In
the fall of 2007 the nursing program will be housed
in a new state of the Art Health Science Building!
Employment of registered nurses is expected
to grow faster than the average for all occupations
through 2012. Thousands of job openings also will result
from the need to replace experienced nurses who leave
the occupation, especially as the age of the registered
nurse population continues to rise. According to the
Occupational Outlook Handbook, median annual earnings
of registered nurses were $48,090 in 2002. The middle
50 percent earned between $40,140 and $57,490.
Approximate cost for the program is
$5,000* for Generic and $4,000* for Transition. This
includes uniforms, tuition, fees, books, supplies,
graduation costs, and the National Council Licensure
Exam. Financial assistance available to those who qualify.
*Tuition and fees are subject to change
without notice.
