ACC's program prepares individuals for a health career in either Echocardiography
or Vascular Technology which are branches of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- sometimes referred to as ultrasound. Upon graduation, students will
possess the skills necessary to perform ultrasound and related diagnostic
exams of the heart or blood vessels. The core curriculum consists of
classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction on subjects including
basic healthcare skills, professional issues, medical terminology,
ethics, cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, hemodynamics, pathophysiology,
pharmacology, and electrocardiography.

The deadline for applications to the AAS program is every
year on February 15th. Acceptance letters go out in March. We have a mandatory
Orientation in April and the program starts in the Summer semester.
The deadline for applications to
the ATC program is every year on October 15th. Acceptance
letters go out in November. We have a mandatory orientation
in December and the program starts in the Spring semester.
This professional observation
is required for acceptance into the program.
We require 2 hours of observation in echo and 2 hours
of observation in vascular. Follow the instructions

Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers®
Sonographers typically work in hospitals,
but they may also work in physician offices, diagnostic
centers, manufacturers, mobile services, and contract
agencies. Job opportunities are plentiful in the Houston
and Galveston area and nationally. Job recruiters contact
ACC weekly about qualified students to fill job openings.
Starting salary for a new graduate generally starts
at about $40,000 and increases to $50,000 - $70,000
after graduates pass the national registry exams.

The Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography
Associate Degree program costs approximately $4,500*.
This amount is based on a pre-set curriculum sequence
and in-district tuition. It includes tuition, fees,
textbooks, scrubs, supplies, seminars, parking at clinical
sites and malpractice insurance.
