For over thirty years, the ACC Music Department has been actively
involved in preparing music majors for transfer to four-year institutions as
well as providing musical experiences for the ACC community. Students have
the opportunity to perform in major ensembles as well as study privately on
the their particular instrument with a full-time music professional. Our music
majors successfully transfer to major universities across the state of Texas
and former ACC music majors currently teach and perform throughout the United
States.
The Concert Band
…is composed of wind and percussion
players. Music-majors and Non-music majors, as well
as ACC Faculty perform with this group. The concert
band performs a variety of traditional and contemporary
wind band music. Admission to this group is open to
all ACC students with director approval.
Rehearsals: Mon/Wed/Fri 12:00n-12:50pm
and Thurs 7:00pm to 8:30 pm

The Stage Band
...provides instrumentalist with opportunities
to learn and perform music in the jazz and pop realm.
While instrumentation can vary, traditional big band
instrumentation is followed, including trumpets, trombones,
saxophones, piano, bass guitar, guitar and drums. The
stage band performs concerts on campus as well as performing
at jazz festivals throughout the state.

Thursday 1:00-1:50 pm

The Alvin Community Band
…was founded in 1994 and is an
extension of ACC’s music program. The band consists
of amateur and professional musicians from the gulf
coast area and performs 6 to 8 concerts per year. In
addition to campus concerts the Alvin Community Band
performs at a variety of community events and activities.
Membership is open to anyone playing wind and percussion
instruments. Co-directed by Jerry Perkins.

The ACC Summer Community Jazz
Ensemble
….is made up of amateur musicians,
professional musicians and college students. The jazz
band performs a variety of traditional big band music
from to 1940’s to today’s modern arrangements.
This ensemble performs at least one concert and usually
records a CD in our recording studios. Membership is
open to experienced musicians based on director recommendation.
Rehearsals: Mondays 7:00pm -9:00 pm
(12 week summer session June –August only)

Other Ensembles are offered based on
interest and enrollment. These instrumental ensembles
include, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind
Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Guitar Ensemble.

Scholarships are available for music
majors and non-majors alike. Music majors can receive
up to $350 per semester. Non-music majors can receive
up to $100 per semester just for performing in one
ensemble. This means you could get $100 for singing
in the choir or playing in the band, and it is not
necessary to have lots of experience.
Many opportunities are available for
musicians. You can pursue a solo career in the classical,
musical theatre, or pop genres; you can become a member
of a performing ensemble like an opera chorus, or symphony
orchestra; or you can freelance, taking gigs or doing
session work for radio, TV, or film. You might also
be interested in teaching music whether privately or
in a school or college. Music teachers are now in great
demand and schedules and salaries are highly competitive.
