Prior to joining the Alvin Community College Faculty, Mr. Griffith taught band and music in the Angleton, Fort Bend and Pasadena school districts. While in Angleton he was also the supervisor of music for the school district. He holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Bachelors of Music Education degree from Sam Houston State University, and an Associates Degree in Music from Alvin Community College.
At ACC he conducts the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Summer Community Jazz Ensemble and co-directs the Alvin Community Band. He also teaches Applied Brass, Music Theory and Ear Training, Music Literature and Music Appreciation. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Community College Band Directors Association, and the International Association for Jazz Education. As a professional trombonist he has played with Phil Woods, Gary Smulyan, Rita Coolidge, John Pizzarelli, Byron Stripling and others. He also serves as an adjudicator and clinician throughout Texas. Mr. Griffith currently (2008-2010) serves as vice president of the Texas Community College Band Directors Association.
