John Calderon

Applied Guitar Instructor  

Mr. Calderón has enjoyed an active career as a freelance musician in the greater Houston area since 1997. As a performer, he has played almost every major venue in the city of Houston , with some of the city's premier ensembles. He has also appeared at many of the greater Houston area music festivals such as; Robert Mondavi Jazz Festival, Kemah Jazz Festival, and Houston International Jazz Festival. In addition to local performing, John has worked nationally and abroad with Jazz pianist, Bobby Lyle. He has traveled to such countries as Poland , Switzerland and Japan . John has also toured the country with Grammy Award winning R&B vocalist Regina Belle appearing at the New York Jazz Festival in Central Park and the Concord Jazz Festival in Oakland, California among others.

John is a published composer with three guitar etudes published by the International Association of Jazz Educators. He has appeared as a guest artist with the Brazosport College Jazz Ensemble, Lamar University Jazz Ensemble, G.C.I.C. Faculty Jazz Ensemble and has served as guest clinician for the U.I.L. Region X Texas All-Region Jazz Ensemble I. He has also presented clinics for the Texas Music Educators Association at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention, San Antonio, Texas .

John received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Lamar University Beaumont, Texas.
