ACC Regents Take Oaths

ACC Regents Take Oaths

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents swore in three regents during their meeting on May 20.

After the regents certified the vote from the May 10 election, Cheryl Knape and Mike Pyburn, who were unopposed during the election joined the newest member, Jody Droege in taking the oath of office.

Droege replaces former regent Brenda Brown, who decided against running for reelection after 24 years on the board.

Droege won the seat after receiving 57 percent of the vote in the election, defeating challenger Patton Ritter who received 42 percent.

In addition to joining the Board of Regents, Droege is a business owner and also president of the ACC Foundation.

After swearing in the regents, the board approved the officer positions including Pete Nash as chairman, James DeWitt as vice chair and Karlis Ercums III as secretary.

The May 20 meeting was also the first for the new ACC President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht, who started her tenure as the college’s sixth president on May 19.

In other action, regents received a presentation on the Communications Department from Division Chair Bill Lewis. The presentation included information on the college radio station KACC, the Radio/Television curriculum and facilities and community outreach.

Also during the meeting regents approved: the hiring of an administrative assistant for the Information Technology Department, a contract for software licenses and the monthly financial reports.

The board will meet again on June 26 at 7 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
