CCPI Hosts Women in Industry Conference

To encourage more women to enter the petrochemical workforce the nine colleges of the Community College Petrochemical Initiative will host the Women in Industry Conference on February 17.

The purpose of the event is to educate women about careers and opportunities available in the petrochemical fields.

This is the second year for the conference and 350 from the Greater Houston area are expected to attend.

“This conference is geared for all women—those unemployed or underemployed, high school or college students, veterans—who desire a well-paying career,” said Debi Jordan, who chairs CCPI.

“Petrochemical refineries need to replace as much as 40 percent of current employees over the next decade—due to plant expansions and an aging workforce,” Jordan said. “There are plenty of challenging, well-paying career positions available in the Upper Texas Gulf Coast region—and refineries and contractors are looking for trained women to hire.”

The conference will feature women speakers who work in the petrochemical and industrial fields. There will also be representatives from local colleges to discuss enrollment, financial aid and job training opportunities.

The CCPI is a collaboration between nine Texas Gulf Coast community colleges.  The initiative aims to recruit and train the next generation of petrochemical workers. ExxonMobil funds the initiative with a $1.5 billion in grants that are distributed to each of the participating colleges.

Corporate sponsors for the event include: ExxonMobil, Chevron Phillips, INEOS, Noltex, East Harris County Manufacturing Association (ECHMA), and Jacobs.

The conference will be at the at South Shore Harbor Resort in League City. To learn more about attending the Women in Industry conference, or to  become a corporate sponsor,  contact Kelly Dando, CCPI grant coordinator, at 281.425.6221, or kdando@lee.edu.
