ACC Choir Students Earn All-State Honors

ACC Choir Students Earn All-State Honors

Six Alvin Community College students were named to the Texas All-State Choir and performed at the recent Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio.

Alex Begnaud, of Alvin, Dalia Castelan, of Alvin, Amy Harris, of Surfside Beach, Arthur Mejia, of Alvin, Brazos Star of Angleton and Hope Vavich, of Alvin, were selected to participate in the Texas Two Year College Choral Directors Association concert on February 11.

“I’m thrilled that six students successfully auditioned to earn a place on the All State Choir,” Choir Director Dr. Kevin Moody said. “They rehearsed over five days that culminated in a beautiful concert at the conference.”

While Castelan was chosen as an All State Choir member, she did not perform at the concert because she was also selected for the All State Band, which performed its concert at the same event.

The Choir members were chosen after an audition among other college students in the region. There were more than 100 students chosen throughout the state to participate.

The Two Year Choral Directors Association was created to give community college students to sing at the direction of a nationally recognized director. They were conducted by Dr. Richard Bjella.
