ACC Regents Approve Insurance Contract

Alvin Community College regents voted unanimously to approve a contract with Victory Insurance for college property, general liability, equipment and cyber liability during their meeting on March 23.

The $348,280 contract is a 16 percent decrease from the premium costs in 2016-17 fiscal year.

The contract includes a new policy for cyber liability, which would shield ACC from damages due to any possible security breach of its computer networks.

In other action, regents approved changing the Child Development program to include an Associate of Applied Science Degree. Adjusting the degree program would allow for a more seamless transition to a university program.

Board Chair Mike Pyburn recognized three individuals during the meeting. Upward Bound student Sofia Aguilar, of Alvin, was named a National Hispanic Scholar after placing in the top 2 percent among 250,000 Hispanic students who recently took the SAT test. Process Technology chair Vic Kalsey was recognized after the Process Tech program was endorsed by the North American Process Technology Alliance. English instructor Keith Vyvial was recognized for his recent coordination of the Across the Curriculum Conference.

President Christal M. Albrecht reported to the board: announcement of an Alvin ISD elementary school being named for regent ‘Bel Sanchez, registration dates for the spring and summer semesters, announcement of the Silver Medal Excellence award for the Culinary Arts chair Leslie Bartosh from Chaine des Rotisseurs, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Commencement ceremony and more.
