ACC Regents Approve Staff Contracts

Alvin Community College regents approved the annual contracts for administrators, faculty and staff members during the board meeting on April 27.

Nine administrators, 52 professional staff and 103 faculty members received their contracts for the 2017-18 fiscal year.

In other action, regents heard a report from the Vice President of Instruction Dr. Cynthia Griffith regarding the five year accreditation report along with data on instructional services regarding distance education, College and Career Pathways, grants, Center for Success and more.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is seeking a referral report from ACC with information on faculty numbers, student learning outcomes, facilities and definition of credit hours. The report is due in September.

Griffith also discussed with the board changes to class offerings. The number of sections have been streamlined while enrollment has increased, which has improved facility use, she said.

“Our class sizes are much more efficient,” Griffith said. “That comes at a significant cost savings for the college.”

Also during the meeting, regents unanimously approved the creation of Facilities Advisement Community Team (FACT). The team’s members will include ACC district taxpayers who will meet and discuss recommendations regarding future campus improvements.

The FACT group will begin meeting in May.

Board members recognized several faculty and staff members including President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht. She has served as a board member for the American Association of Community Colleges for the past three years and is currently the President of the National Council on Workforce Education.

Serving in these leadership positions not only benefits our nation’s community colleges but it is also a testament to the high caliber leadership we have in place at ACC,” said Board Chair Mike Pyburn.

The board also recognized the Dual Credit program advisors, the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and President’s Award winner Gabe Gutierrez.

In her board report, Albrecht reported: fall registration is now open, recent ceremonies including Awards Day and the Presidents Tea, designation of April as Sexual Assault Awareness month as well as information on past and upcoming events at the college.

Regents also:

-approved a contract for auditing services with Belt, Harris, Pachacek LLP

-heard update on physical plant chiller

-approved revision to board policy regarding tenured faculty

-heard a report from the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society

-heard an update on the Strategic Plan

-approved monthly financial reports

-heard an update on grant applications and awards
