ACC Regents Approve Budget Amendments

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents approved budget amendments for the 2016-17 fiscal year during their meeting on May 25.

The amendments will fund several items including equipment for several programs including Communications, Respiratory Care, Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography, various science courses as well as campus security and Information Technology software.

The amendments included an $86,654 purchase of server infrastructure components for campus computer networks.

In other action, regents approved the $136,500 purchase of simulation equipment and a medication dispensing system for the Nursing program. The equipment will be funded by a Texas Workforce Commission Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant.

In her board report, Presidents Christal M. Albrecht reported that the Upward Bound program received a five-year grant renewal from the U.S. Department of Education. Started in 2003, the Upward Bound program seeks to motivate low-income and/or potential first-generation college students and help them develop the skills they need to complete secondary education and succeed at the postsecondary educational institution of their choice.

During the meeting, regents also:

-approved updates to local board policy

-heard a data report regarding student retention rates

-approved hiring of Economics instructor Albert Pasaoa

-heard a data report on the Court Reporting program

-approved monthly financial reports

-approved purchase of resale property

Regents will have their next meeting on June 22 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
