ACC Regents Lower Tax Rate

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents voted to reduce the property tax rate for the second year in a row during their meeting on August 17.

The board unanimously approved a tax rate of 18.07 cents per $100 of appraised property value. The board approved the effective rate which will generate the same level of property tax revenue as the previous year not including revenue from new construction.

The rate will take effect in September. It is more than a penny less than last year’s rate of  19.17 cents and two cents less than the 20.04 cent tax rate in 2015-16.

The 2017-18 Maintenance and Operations rate is 16.36 cents while the rate for voter-approved debt is 1.71 cents.

In other action the board approved its annual cooperative purchasing programs request. Such programs help reduce costs while also providing quality products through combined purchases through multiple governmental and educational institutions.

The board also:

The board will have its next meeting on September 28 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
