ACC Dual Degree Graduates

During the Alvin Community College Commencement ceremony, two Dual Degree graduates walked across the ACC stage before receiving their high school diplomas. These students are also graduating from high school six months early.

Lorren Munson of Alvin High School and Felicity Vasquez of Manvel High School received their degree during the Fall Commencement on December 9.

The two graduates successfully earned 60 hours of college coursework through participation in the Dual Credit-Dual Degree program and completed their Associate Degree in General Studies.

Most dual degree graduate students begin their journey as freshmen, taking classes on their high school campus and any additional courses needed at ACC or online. Advisors say it takes a lot of work and the students have to stay on task.

“These two students have gone above and beyond earning not only their Associate degrees, but also their high school diplomas early,” said Akilah Martin, director of ACC College and Career Pathways. “What an honor and accomplishment.“

Students seeking the associate’s degree have increased dramatically since ACC's first dual degree grad, Thomas Schuenemann, in 2008. Since the first graduate, the ACC Dual Credit program has graduated 339 students. There are now more than 1,800 students enrolled in the program at seven area campuses.
