ACC Regents Receive Annual Audit

Alvin Community College regents received an annual audit report for the 2016-17 fiscal year during a meeting on January 11.

The audit was conducted by the Belt, Harris and Pechacek firm. Auditors stated the college maintains sound fiscal policy.

“We have issued a clean and unmodified opinion,” said auditor Mike Brotherton. “That’s the highest level of assurance that we as auditors can provide that financial statements are free of any material misstatements.”

The college had $43 million in assets, he said. The college’s net position was $18.3 million, which was a $2 million increase from the previous year.

Regents also voted to approve transferring $1.2 million from the general fund to institutional reserve.

In other action, regents approved the $473,000 for labor and materials to replace air handlers and boilers in Buildings G and H. Carrier Corp. will provide six new air handlers and T&R Mechanical will provide new boilers and installation services of the new equipment.

Regents also approved increasing the expenditures for contracting services for college facilities by $125,000. The increase is to deal with the frequent infrastructure issues with the aging facilities on campus as well as issues caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Regents also:

-hired a Student Activities coordinator

-hired an academic advisor

-hired a college recruiter

-appointed election clerk

-heard presentation on the annual data report

-heard presentation on the Human Resources department

-approved length of Dental Assisting program

-approved purchases for computer equipment

-approved bid for resale property

-approved monthly financial reports

The board will have its next meeting on February 22 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
