ACC Choir Members Join All-State Chorus

Nine Alvin Community College students were named to the Texas All-State Choir and performed at the recent Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio.

Sergio Andrade, of Alvin; Micaela Campos, of Pearland; Victoria Cole, of Santa Fe; Egypt Goggans, of Alvin; Alyssa Hughes, of League City; Benjamin Jensen, of Houston; Ben Miller, of Alvin; Nick Robertson, of Santa Fe and Katie Zvonek, of Missouri City were selected to participate in the Texas Two Year College Choral Directors Association concert on February 17.

“I am so grateful my students took advantage of this opportunity to sing with the Texas Two Year All State Choir, and am proud of them for all their hard work.,” Choir Director Dr. Kevin Moody said.

The Choir members were chosen after an audition among other college students in the region. There were more than 130 students chosen throughout the state to participate at the conference which was held February 13-17.

“Rehearsals took place over four days culminating in a concert,” Moody said. “This is perhaps one of the largest music conventions in the world with over 25,000 attendees.”

The Two Year Choral Directors Association was created to give community college students to sing at the direction of a nationally recognized director. This year’s conductor was Grammy Award-winning conductor/composer Craig Hella Johnson.

“He chose a challenging but beautiful program of music that was meaningful to the singers and audience alike,” Moody said.

The All State Choir members are part of the ACC Community Chorus. They will have their annual Spring concert on May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the ACC Theatre. It is free and open to the public.
