ACC Hosts Veterans Job Fair June 24

Alvin Community College will reach out to area veterans who are seeking an education and a place in the workforce during the Veterans’ Education and Benefits Fair on Tuesday, June 24.

 Studies are showing that a majority of veterans in the United States are faring well in college by completing their education. More than 50 percent of veterans who have signed up to use their educational benefits have graduated with a degree or workforce certification, a completion rate which is comparable to other students, according to the Student Veterans of America organization.

 ACC would like to see more area veterans join the long list of success stories. College advisers and volunteers at the fair will help all veterans apply for their benefits to pay for college, disability benefits, housing assistance and more.

 "We are hoping to have some young veterans there to start their education benefits," said Toby Herzog, ACC veterans academic advisor.

 College advisors will be joined with representatives from the Texas Veterans Commission, Wounded Warriors, Salvation Army, Brazoria County Veterans Affairs Office, United Way, the Alvin chapter of the American Legion plus many more.

 Veterans and their family members are invited to attend the event to learn more about the options available to them now that they've finished their service.

 "They need the benefits to begin their next career," Herzog said.

 In addition to the benefits assistance, veterans also will be provided training for seeking a job such as interview skills, resume writing and more.

 The event is free and open to all area veterans.

 The fair will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nolan Ryan Center. To learn more e-mail therzog@alvincollege.edu or veterans@alvincollege.edu.
