Meet the Advising Services Staff:

Stephanie Stockstill, Director of Advising Services
Hometown: Gainesville, FL.
Education: B.A., St. Leo University (Psychology), M.A. University of South Florida (Counselor Education).

Ms. Stockstill joined the ACC staff in 2002. Originally from Florida, Ms. Stockstill’s entire career has been in higher education in Florida and Texas. She has served as an Academic Advisor, Continuing Education Coordinator, Coordinator of Admissions and Assistant Dean of Student Services prior to her arrival at ACC.

“My interest has always been in the community college environment. I have worked at a small private university and a large public university in graduate school, but by far the greatest job satisfaction is working with community college students”.


Diana Stiles, Counselor (LPC) and Coordinator of Career Services
Hometown: Campbellsville, Ky.
Education: A.A. Wharton County Jr. College, B.S. (Behavioral Sciences) and M.S.  (Counseling)  from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Ms. Stiles joined ACC in 1994 and has held two positions as an Academic Advisor and Counselor. She holds certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).  Ms. Stiles coordinates the Career Services program.

“Being the first college graduate in my family and paying for my own college education has provided me sensitivity to the issues that first generation and non-traditional students may have when they begin or return to college.  It is my hope to assist others in their educational pursuits”.


Akilah A. Martin, Academic Advisor (Manvel High School)
Hometown: Colorado Springs, CO,( but raised in Houston, TX!)
Education: B.S., Texas State University (Criminal Justice Corrections); M.Ed. Texas Southern University (Counselor Education).

Ms. Martin began her career with Harris County Juvenile Probation and transitioned into Education where she has held positions as a Program Coordinator for Talent Search Trio Program and a regional admissions counselor.  Ms. Martin joined the ACC team in 2007 as the Student Activities Coordinator before accepting the position as an academic advisor for Manvel High School.

Gwendolyn Burgess, Academic Advisor (Pearland High School)
Hometown: Tallahassee, FL.
Education: B.S. Florida A & M University (Business); M.S. University of Houston (Occupational Education).

Gwendolyn joined the ACC staff in August 1989.  With strong people skills and a desire to assist others, Gwendolyn’s entire professional career has been in higher education.  She served as the Budget Coordinator for the JTPA Program and Academic Advisor on the Alvin campus prior to accepting the advisor position at Pearland High School.

“I have always been interested in assisting others in making good, sound educational choices. ACC has given me an opportunity to use my best skills in working with high school students.”


Eileen Cross, Coordinator, Disability Services

Education: B.S., Texas Tech University (Deaf Education), M.S., University of Houston, Clear Lake (Educational Diagnostics)

Ms. Cross joined ACC in 1988 and has worked in the Advising office as support for students with disabilities and as a part-time instructor in Psychology. Prior to her arrival at ACC, Ms. Cross taught in all levels of K-12 in the areas of learning disabilities and behavior disorders. Ms. Cross is a founding member of the Texas AHEAD (The Association on Higher Education and Disability) organization where she has served as the President and a number of other leadership roles.

“I like to think outside the box, be a problem solver and encourager to students who want to succeed”.


Kennon Henry, Academic Advisor (Glenda Dawson High School)
Hometown: Angleton, TX.
Education: A.S., Alvin Community College (Business Administration); B.A., Sam Houston State University (Psychology/Math); M.S., University of Houston Clear Lake (School Guidance Counseling).

Ms. Henry has been part of the ACC family for over 3 decades- first, as an active student and student employee on campus in 1981. After receiving her Counseling degree in 1990, she returned to work in the Advising Office as a Counselor.  She currently is the academic advisor for the dual credit program at Glenda Dawson High School.

“My passion for higher education and my teaching experience at both the college and secondary levels have driven me to pursue an opportunity to share everything that ACC has to offer with our local high school students”.


Toby Herzog, Academic Advisor/VA Certifying Official
Hometown: Splendora, TX.
Education: B.S., Sam Houston State University (Social Work).

Ms. Herzog joined the ACC staff in 1994 in the Continuing Education Department and became an Academic Advisor in 2001.  Prior to working for ACC, Ms. Herzog worked for the Texas Department of Human and Protective Services in Harris and Brazoria Counties.

  “As a first generation college student, I understand the apprehension students experience when enrolling in college the first time.  I enjoy helping students understand the enrollment process. Working with Student Veterans is an especially rewarding experience for me. I am thankful for the opportunity to help our students meet their educational goals.”


Tina Martin, Academic Advisor (Alvin High School)
Hometown: Lancing, West Suffex, England   
Education: B.B.A., Letourneau University (Management); M.S. Ed., Capella University (Higher Education Leadership).

Originally from England, Ms. Martin moved to the US as a teenager and attended Alvin High School. Prior to joining the ACC team, she served as the Executive Director for the Alvin YMCA and served the YMCA for 10 years. Ms. Martin began her ACC career as an adjunct physical education instructor in 2003 and joined the staff full time in 2006.

“I believe I have the best job imaginable assisting high school students and other community members as they take advantage of the wonderful benefits of higher education through Alvin Community College.”


Julio C. Quiralte, Counselor (LPC)

Mr. Quiralte joined the ACC advising staff in 2011. Prior to his arrival, he worked as a college counselor and as a mental health counselor in Brazoria County.  He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas and considers it an incredible privilege to work as a counselor.  

“I have a great admiration for the dedication and commitment students make to be in college and to better themselves.  It is a huge sacrifice to juggle school with everything else that life throws at us, so it is an honor to work as a counselor and help them along their journey.“


Alpha Trevino, Academic Advisor/International Student Advisor

Prior to joining the ACC staff in 2003, Ms. Trevino worked for the Alvin Independent School District.   In addition to assisting international students with admission to ACC, she coordinates the College Day program as well as sponsoring the International Student Club.

"What I find most rewarding is to be able to sit down with students and develop an academic plan that will make them successful in their pursuit of higher education."


Angela Fox, Testing Coordinator
Hometown: Houston, TX
Education: A.A.S, Alvin Community College

 Ms. Fox joined the ACC staff in 1980 as a Reading Tutor in the Learning Lab and has held several other positions on campus before assuming the Testing Coordinator position in 1998. Ms. Fox was named the GED Examiner of the Year for the state of Texas in 2007 and is known for her meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in the testing center.

“As a vital role in the admissions process, I enjoy assisting students in the pursuit of their educational goals by providing the assessments needed to move forward. I also find much fulfillment in assisting individuals with the attainment of the GED credential”.
