Career planning is a process that includes self-assessment, career exploration and information gathering. In targeting a specific goal, individuals can explore career preparation (training and/or gaining education), attainment of marketable skills and career management.
Individuals who need to decide or clarify a major, and individuals who need to identify new job possibilities, are highly encouraged to make use of this service.
The Career Module is being created and will include the following features:
- Interactive web-based system
- Complete two online assessments and workbook prior to the session
- Exercises to assess values, interests, passions, transferable skills and personality type
- Develop career goals and an action plan
- Overview of all career resources in Career Center
- Individual counseling session
Alvin Community College offers workshops on job-search topics such as resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and tapping the hidden job market. To register call 281.756.3531 or stop by the Academic Advising Office.
Students may schedule appointments to meet with a Career Counselor to review results from career assessments, critique resumes and obtain assistance with job search strategies. Referalls to community resources can be provided. Call 281.756.3531 to make an appointment.
Alvin Community College hosts annual Healthcare Job Fairs. The participating organizations include many major healthcare facilities, hospitals and centers. Healthcare Job Fairs are held in February.
We assist individuals in making the transition from college to career through a variety of resources.
Computer career planning software is located in the ACC Career and Transfer Center in Building A, Room A-134. There is no charge for these services.
- Choices is a career planning software program which includes an interest inventory, descriptions of occupations, labor market information, financial aid information and more. The Choices program is also available on the computers in the CyberLink Student Computer Lab in Building A, Room A-173, and in the Pearland Campus Library.
- TypeFocus is a personality typing program that matches results to occupations.

What does the Career Planning Program at Alvin Community College include?

The Career & Job Placement Center offers a comprehensive Career Planning Program. The program helps define and explore career options that are compatible with your personal goals, abilities and interests. The program may consist of two 2-hour sessions or a half-day workshop. Counselors will provide feedback throughout the career planning process.
