Alvin Community College Continuing Education Workforce Development is now offering a new career training program that teaches students to become certified aircraft dispatchers.
Aircraft dispatchers work with commercial or private airlines to plan and monitor flights. These integral members of the flight team use weather, navigation, FAA regulatory requirements, aircraft systems and air traffic control data to help pilots and the ground team safely and effectively carry-out flights around the world.
“Certified aviation dispatchers are in-demand from both private and commercial aviation companies.”
The new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved Aircraft Dispatcher Program is offered by ACC in partnership with Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc, a recognized leader in aviation for over 50 years.
Students will have four months to complete the online portion of the class before moving on to the two-week, hands-on training class. After successful completion of the classroom portion of the program, students will take the FAA licensing exam.
Entry-level aircraft dispatchers who go to work for regional carriers can earn between $28,000 and $32,000 annually. Students who go to work as assistant flight dispatchers for major airlines can make up to $40,000.
“Despite the down economy, the demand for licensed dispatchers has continued to grow and is projected to increase in 2012.”
