Get ready for GED testing...with prep classes from ACC!
Smooth the way for GED testing by enrolling in one of several preparatory classes offered by ACC’s Adult Basic Education Department. On the main campus in Alvin or at the Pearland Center, you can choose a day class or night class to ready yourself to pass all five sections of the GED test – writing, social studies, science, reading, and math – to earn the high school equivalency diploma. Classes are usually available year round.
ACC also offers math only and writing only classes that focus on just one subject – instead of all five. These classes offer a concentrated review opportunity for students who are weak in math and/or writing or have found it difficult to pass the math or writing components of the GED test.
In addition, the PRE-GED class is specifically designed for adults with eight or less years of formal education or with basic reading, language or math difficulties. The instruction develops general reading, writing, and mathematics skills to help students transition to the GED study level.

Classes Available at Both Alvin & Pearland Campuses
Sign up for our complete GED Comprehensive Preparation class to get 60 full hours of instruction – and a sample test for each of the five subjects covered – at both Alvin and Pearland campuses.
Tuition for the comprehensive GED prep class is just $145 for students living within the Alvin Independent School District. For those living outside the district, the tuition is $165. Students attending ACC’s Alvin campus must pay an additional $9 for technical and parking fees while those attending the Pearland Center will be asked to pay the $5 technical fee only. A textbook and the official GED calculator (Casio fx-260 Solar FRACTION) must be purchased prior to starting class. These items are available at the ACC bookstore for about $40.
The math only and writing only classes each run for 24 hours and cost just $57 for students living within the Alvin Independent School District. For those who live outside the district, the tuition is $77. Students attending ACC’s Alvin campus must pay an additional $7 for technical and parking fees while those attending the Pearland Center will be asked to pay the $5 technical fee only. The math class requires the purchase of a textbook and exercise book and the official GED calculator. The writing class requires that the student buy a textbook and exercise book only.
The 48-hour PRE-GED Preparation class tuition is only $116 for Alvin ISD residents and $136 for all others. Students attending ACC’s Alvin campus must pay an additional $9 for technical and parking fees while those attending the Pearland Center will be asked to pay the $5 technical fee only. Students are required to purchase a textbook and exercise book.
Registration is EASY!
Quick and simple online registration is available to students 18 and older by clicking on “CONTINUING ED & CAREER TRAINING” and then “CE Online Registration,” or click here. If you prefer, you can register by phone with a credit card by calling 281-756-3787 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (ACC is closed on Fridays during the summer). To register in person, visit H-103 at ACC-Alvin or the Administrative Building at ACC-Pearland during regular working hours.
Students Under 18 Years of Age
Register online, by phone, or in person as above. But, to enroll, students under 18 must have proof of withdrawal from public school and written permission from the parent or guardian to attend classes. An additional document, available through the Adult Education office, must be completed by public school officials in order to sign up for GED testing in the ACC testing center.
Important: Prior to the first day of class, both student and parent must meet with the program coordinator to sign a written enrollment contract to ensure compliance of class rules and campus regulations.
Sixteen year olds are accepted only when they are court-ordered to attend a GED class.

GED Testing
When you feel prepared and confident about passing the GED tests, register for available dates in the Enrollment Services Center (ESC) on the first floor of Building A at the Alvin Campus. The cost to take the exam is $80 for your first attempt at all five subjects and $15 per section retested every time after that.
You may either take the exam over two consecutive Tuesdays during the day or over five consecutive Tuesday evenings. For a complete test day schedule click here.
