Non-Certified Radiological Technician (NCRT)

This course will teach the fundamental diagnostic radiological procedures to prepare individuals for a career as a Non-Certified Radiological Technician.   Topics will include radiation safety and protection for the patient, self and others, image production and evaluation, radiographic equipment maintenance and operation, quality control, darkroom, processing, and Texas Regulations for Control of Radiation.

Students will also learn the units of applied human anatomy and radiological procedures of the skull, chest, spine, abdomen, not including any procedures utilizing contrast media, upper extremities, lower extremities, and podiatric. Individuals employed as NCRT will be able to perform radiographic procedures under the supervision of a doctor. The 180 hour program can be completed in 12 weeks.

Courses Descriptions

Introduction to Radiology - This is a hybrid course, lecture online and one 3 hour lab every Wednesday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm for 12 weeks. (Labs are mandatory.) This course is overview of the historical development of radiography, basic radiation protection and procedures, an introduction to medical terminology, ethical and legal issues for health care professionals, and an orientation to the profession and the health care system.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Define basic medical terms; identify ethical and legal standards; explain basic radiation protection practices; perform basic radiation procedures and relate the role of radiography to health care.

Radiographic Image Evaluation I - This is a hybrid course, lecture online and lab every Wednesday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm for 12 weeks. (Labs are mandatory.) This course will cover the  scientific process of radiographic image evaluation.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Analyze the positioning and technical qualities of a radiographic image.

Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology - This is an online course. It is an overview of the structure and functions of the human body. This course will cover all the body systems with emphasis on the neurological, muscular and skeletal systems.

Basic Medical Assistant Technology - This is an online course. This course is an introduction to medical office operations, equipment, procedures, and human relations skills.
