This course is designed to prepare students for employment as an Occupational Therapy Aide. Students will be introduced to the historical development and philosophy of the profession of occupational therapy. Emphasis on the roles and functions of the occupational therapy aide in current health care environments including moral, legal, and ethical issues.
Students will learn medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, body mechanics, vital signs, reporting, charting, coding, patient interaction skills, and the use of equipment and techniques to aide in the administration of occupational therapy assessment and implementation of procedures for physical function. Individuals employed as OT aides will work under the supervision of OTs and OT assistants. The 180 hour program can be completed in 12 weeks.
Course Descriptions
Introduction to Occupational Therapy - This is a hybrid course, lecture online and one lab every Wednesday evening from 6 pm to 9 pm for 12 weeks. (Labs are mandatory.) This course is designed to prepare students for employment as an Occupational Therapy Aide. Students will learn medical terminology, body mechanics, reporting, charting, coding, patient interaction skills, and the use of equipment and techniques to aide in the administration of occupational therapy assessment and implementation of procedures for physical function. There will also be emphasis on the roles and functions of the occupational therapy aide in current health care environments including moral, legal and ethical issues.
Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology - This is an online course. It is an overview of the structure and functions of the human body. This course will cover all the body systems with emphasis on the neurological, muscular and skeletal systems.
Basic Medical Assistant Technology - This is an online course. This course is an introduction to medical office operations, equipment, procedures, and human relations skills.
