Concealed Handgun Licensing and Marksmanship
Concealed Handgun Licensing and Marksmanship
ACC offers classes for those interested in obtaining or renewing their concealed handgun license. The concealed handgun classes are taught by instructors from the ACC Criminal Justice program. To learn more click here.
Basic Handgun Safety and Familiarization
This course is a preparatory course for Basic Handgun Marksmanship and is designed for persons with little or no experience with handguns. It teaches the basics of handgun safety including:
- The elements of gun safety
- Basic handgun operation
A variety of handguns will be provided for your use, or you may bring your personal unloaded handgun. NO AMMUNITION will be permitted.
Basic Handgun MarksmanshipDesigned to build upon the knowledge gained in the Basic Handgun Safety &;; Familiarization course, you will learn and practice the principles of handgun marksmanship. Handguns will be provided or, you may bring your personal unloaded handgun.
Weapons that are deemed unsafe by the instructor will not be allowed on the range. Any actions deemed unsafe by the instructor will result in the student being removed from the range. Any student removed from the range due to safety violations will not be allowed to finish this course and may not attend this course again until they successfully complete the Basic Handgun Safety and Familiarization course.
Intermediate Handgun MarksmanshipDesigned to build upon the knowledge gained in the Basic Handgun Marksmanship course, you will be introduced to:
- Longer shooting distances
- Timed fire drills
- Timed reloading drills.
You will be required to have two magazines and a carry method (holster that you will use) for your weapon.
Note: You must successfully complete the Basic Handgun Marksmanship course before registering for this class.
Advanced Handgun Marksmanship
In this class you will be introduced to:
- Longer shooting distances
- Timed fire drills
- Timed reloading drills
- Target identification drills
- Various lighting conditions
- Movement and multiple targets.
You will be required to have two magazines and a carry method (holster that you will use) for your weapon.
Note: You will be required to successfully complete the Intermediate Handgun Marksmanship course and have a current concealed handgun license before registering for this class.
Concealed Handgun License in One Day
Designed for persons desiring qualification to obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun, the topics introduced in this course meet the requirements of the State of Texas. To obtain a concealed handgun license, state law requires passage of a written test and demonstration of proficiency with the handgun. Minimum age: 21 years.
Note: This is not a class for someone who does not know how to safely operate and fire a handgun.
Concealed Handgun Renewal in One Day
This class meets state requirements to renew your Concealed Carry License. Tuition fee includes photographs, notarizing of required documents, fingerprinting, target, ammunition and certificate fee.
Do you dream of hitting the open road on the back of a motorcycle? In the ACC Motorcycle Safety class you will get bike basics and become familiar with motorcycling in a safe controlled environment.
This class provides a excellent opportunity for a you to determine if motorcycling is something you want to pursue before investing in a new bike and equipment. It also is a good way to determine your comfort level on a bike to help you purchase the right bike for you.
The class includes five-hours of classroom instruction with seventeen exercises conducted with hands-on, in-the-seat training including:
- The use of controls and parts
- Smooth starts and stops
- Shifting gears
- Braking
- Turning and evasive maneuvers
All of the ACC Motorcycle Safety class instructors are experienced riders who have successfully completed an instructor preparation course and biennial recertification requirements.
To successfully complete the class you must:
- Be present for the entire class
- Satisfactorily complete a written test at the end of the classroom session
- Satisfactorily complete a skill evaluation consisting of the execution of various maneuvers in a safe and controlled manner
Successful completion of the class earns you a certificate that allows you to take only the written portion of the motorcycle endorsement requirement at a local Texas DPS driver’s license office.
Motorcycles are provided for your use in the class. In order to ride the training motorcycles you will be required to wear:
- Over the ankle footwear (athletic shoes are allowed so long as ankles are covered; heavy bulky boots and/or high heels and soles are strongly discouraged)
- Long pants
- Long sleeves (light weight long sleeve shirts are recommended in the warmer months, riding jackets can be hot and uncomfortable)
- Full-fingered gloves (cotton garden gloves and such are ok for the course)
- Eye protection (sunglasses recommended, full face helmet with a shield is ok)
- DOT approved helmet (loaner helmets are available - sizes XS to XXL)
Classes are held rain or shine. Breaks are offered on the range at regular intervals, but if the summer heat and humidity are difficult for you to handle, or if you have health concerns, please consider taking the class in the non-summer months. You will be outside in direct sunlight with helmets and long sleeves often sitting on a bike with a hot engine running between your legs. If you are not used to being outdoors for extended periods of time or if you are not in good physical condition, it is strongly suggested that you register for the class in the cooler months. Refunds are not given to students who are unable to complete the course.
Note: Students under the age of 18 will be required to submit both the “Consent to Treat a Minor,” as well as ‘Texas Waiver and Student Information” forms with a parent of guardian’s signature.
