The Computer Science Technology Degree prepares students for a career in computer programming. Computer programmers create instructions that tell the computer what to do, such as which information to identify and access, how to process it, and what equipment to use. Individuals who are detail-oriented and have strong math and analytical skills are often good candidates for this field.

Computer programmers are employed in almost every industry, but the largest concentration is in the computer and data processing industry. Programmers also work for firms that provide engineering and management services, telecommunication companies, manufacturers of computer and office equipment, financial institutions, insurance carriers, health care organizations, education institutions, and government agencies.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor the computer service industry is expected to be the third fastest growing industry in the U.S. economy over the next decade. SalaryExpert.com reports the average salary for a computer programmer employed in the Houston, TX area is $65,402.
