Before the First Message
- View the About Mail Tutorial in the WebCT Student
Lounge
- Review Netiquette
- Consider the content of the email and organize your thoughts
- Know where to locate documents that you will attach
Creating the Message
- Browse for recipients of the email (Make sure that ONLY recipients
you want to receive the message are checked)
- Include a subject in the subject line
- Avoid jokes, pictures, or other files unrelated to the course.
Emails inside your online course should be related to the course
- Create a clear and succinct message
- Avoid sarcasm, slang, or other regional jargon. Be professional!
- Be sure to include your name at the conclusion of the message
- Attach any necessary documents (Verify that the document that
you want to send is attached)
- Preview the message carefully before you send
Receiving Messages
- Reply to the message if necessary
- Organize important messages in folders (You may need important
information for projects or tests)
- Be patient when waiting on a response
- After 48 hours send a courtesy email to make sure that your
email was received
- Do not read too much into a message. Miscommunications are
common when using email.
