Certifying Information
Current Alvin Community College veterans, please note that enrollment verification is available by phone or Internet. You must contact the VA on either the first day or last day of each month of eligibility to verify your hours. Verification of hours is available 24 hours a day by dialing 1-877-823-2378 on a touch-tone telephone. All students who are receiving MGIB Active Duty (Chapter 30) educational benefits are now able to certify their monthly Verification of Enrollment over the Internet at www.gibill.va.gov. The veteran needs to have his/her social security number available. If you made a change in enrollment, do not call the toll free number or use the web site. Notify the college veteran's office of the change and send in form VA 22-8979 notating any changes.

Standards of Progress

Satisfactory Progress: Maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0.

Associate Degree Students:

Probation: Failure to achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 results in first probation for the student's next registration. If the student achieves a 2.0 GPA for his first semester on probation but does not achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0, the student will be placed on second probation for on additional semester. Summer sessions are considered one semester.

Unsatisfactory Progress: Failure to remove probationary status. Unsatisfactory progress is reported to the VA Regional office at the end of the first probation period if the semester GPA is below 2.0 and at the end of the second probation period if the cumulative GPA is below 2.0. This action suspends VA educational benefits.

Certificate Students:

Probation: Failure to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA during the first 25% of the total hours required for completion of the certificates results in first probation. If the student achieves a 2.0 GPA for the next 25% of the total hours but does not achieve a cumulative 2.0 GPA, the student will be placed on second probation for an additional semester.

Unsatisfactory Progress: Unsatisfactory progress is reported to the VA at the end of the first probation period if the semester GPA is below 2.0 and at the end of the second probation period if the cumulative GPA is below 2.0 This action suspends VA educational benefits.

Transfer Students: VA students who transfer to Alvin Community College under academic suspension or probation at the last school attended are admitted under the terms of the first probation listed above.

Reinstatement of VA Educational Benefits: Reinstatement of benefits will rely upon achievement of a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and agreement for reinstatement by the Office of Veteran's Affairs.

Other Important Information
We recommend that you apply for benefits as soon as you decide you're going to college. VA recipients are expected to comply with standards of academic progress. VA certification is not an automatic progress; veterans must request certification each semester. Students can apply for benefits online at the VA website, www.gibill.va.gov. Please be sure to print a copy of your completed online application and bring it to your advising session with the ACC Veterans Advisor.
