 Program Description

Process Technology is the ability to understand, operate, shut down, analyze and troubleshoot industrial processes. The Process Technology program at ACC prepares students to become process technicians in the refining, petrochemical, power generation, oil and gas production, food, metals, minerals and other process industries. Technical knowledge and skills will be gained in areas such as operating equipment, instrumentation systems, process systems, process troubleshooting and computer applications.

ACC is a fully accredited college and certified by the Southern Association of Colleges and Universities. The Process Technology program is:

Career Opportunities

Process Technicians are in great demand in the Gulf Coast area, across the U.S. and in many other countries. Alvin Community College graduates have close to a 100 percent job placement rate and many students are hired before graduation. Starting annual salaries for process operators range from $50,000 to $60,000 with excellent benefits.

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Process Technology  .............. 71 credit hours (2 years)

Program Investment

The Process Technology Associate Degree program costs approximately $6,200*. This amount is based on a pre-set curriculum sequence and in-district tuition. This price includes tuition, fees, and textbooks.

Process Technology Community Open House,  June 2012

The purpose of this annual event is to open our doors to the community for an evening, so that all interested parties can find out about Process Technology, how to get a degree, and how to land a job. Prospective students, their guests, process industry representatives, and all others interested in finding out more about the Process Technology career are welcome to attend.

This event has been sponsored by the National Science Foundation through a grant provided by the Center for the Advancement of Process Technology and the Gulf Coast Process Technology Alliance, American Chemical Society, Shell Oil, BP, Lyondell Chemical, Solutia, Ineos, and Champion Technologies. Process Technology High School Forum, Spring 2012

This all-day, annual event is held every Spring, so that area high school students interested in Process Technology, along with their teachers and counselors, can get more immersed in what the career is all about. Activities include a tour of a local processing plant in the morning, with speakers and hands-on demonstrations at ACC after lunch.
