Academic Advising

All new students who have never attended college are asked to meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss a degree plan, test results, course selection, and any other questions about college. New Alvin Community College students who have attended college elsewhere are encouraged to meet with an Academic Advisor, but it is not required.

Academic Advising Steps

1. Take the THEA or ACCUPLACER test, (link to Testing) if required, or other state-approved Texas Success Initiative Assessment Test.

2. Gather copies of transcript(s) and test scores. Official transcripts are held in the Registrar’s Office. If you are transferring from another college, please stop by the Alvin Community College Registrar’s Office to request a transcript evaluation.

3. Meet with an advisor or counselor in the Academic Advising Office. Appointments are not required. Bring your test scores, transcript(s), and/or transcript evaluation.
