Employment

There are two types of on-campus employment, Student Assistant and Federal Work Study. The options are detailed below.

Student Assistant

Alvin Community College offers students opportunities to work part-time on campus. These positions are open to currently enrolled students. Students may work up to 19 hours a week and their works hours are scheduled around their classes. Positions are funded by the employment departments and available on a limited basis.

To work as a Student Assistant, students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be enrolled in at least six (6) hours during the spring and fall semesters. To apply for a position, simply stop by the Financial Aid Department and fill out an On-Campus Application. Applicants should reapply each semester to indicate their availability.

Federal Work Study (FWS)

This program provides part-time on-campus employment opportunities based on need. Need is determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Every effort is made to place students in jobs related to their academic interest. Students may work no more than 19 hours per week and are paid minimum wage. The total amount earned by students may not exceed their unmet need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. If interested in the work study program, simply check the appropriate box on the FAFSA. Then, stop by the Financial Aid Office and fill out a Work Study Application.
