Court Reporting

Program Description
Since 1975, Alvin Community College has been recognized in the court reporting industry for graduating highly trained professionals. The quality is so high that the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recognized it as an Exemplary program. This explains why students testify to the personal attention and outstanding instruction found in the ACC Court Reporting program.

The AAS Degree in Court Reporting is a two-year program. However, the courses are offered in a way to allow students to progress at their own rates. Accommodations are made for students to receive credit for work previously accomplished through the credit-by-exam procedure.

Career Opportunities
Court reporting graduates have a variety of career options. Court reporters have always been front and center at controversial and highly publicized cases – criminal trials, millionaire divorces, federal government corruption trials, and lawsuits against everyone from heavy metal groups to public figures.

But there is so much more a court reporter can do. There is a growing need for captioning professionals. The federal government recently began a multi-million dollar campaign to increase the number of qualified court reporters who specialize in captioning. Court reporters also work in Rapid Data Entry, Medical/Legal Transcription, Scoping and more. According to the National Court Reporters Association, the average annual income for Court Reporters is $61,000.
