Respiratory Care

Program Description
Respiratory Care Practitioners evaluate, treat and care for patients of all ages, from premature infants whose lungs are not fully developed, to elderly people whose lungs are diseased. Often when a patient is in respiratory distress, their next breath depends on a respiratory care practitioner. Students in ACC’s Respiratory Care program gain hands-on experience at hospitals in addition to lab and classroom training.

Career Opportunities
Respiratory Care is currently one of the fastest growing career fields. The demand for respiratory care practitioners will continue to increase because of substantial growth of the middle-age population. Advances in the treatment of heart attack victims, accident victims, and premature infants will also increase the demand for respiratory care practitioners. The average starting salary is $38,000. An experienced Respiratory Care Practitioner makes between $40,000 to $62,000 plus shift or weekend differential.
