Alvin College Lab School Wins Texas Rising Star Award

The Alvin College Lab School won the Texas Rising Star Award from the Texas Workforce Commission Child Care Services Program for excellence in childcare.

The award is given to day care centers in Texas and includes several factors such as teacher-child interaction, indoor and outdoor learning environments, family communication and more.

Texas Rising Star daycares are ranked from one star to four stars. Alvin College received a four-star rating.

We are thrilled that we scored as a four-star center!” said Karen Tofte, Alvin College Lab School Director. “It validates the commitment that our teachers have to the children and their early years.”

With the Texas Rising Star Award, the Lab School is now eligible for professional development opportunities and program benefits such as stipends, curriculum assistance, materials and equipment.

The selection process included a review of the center’s licensing history, observation of classes and collecting documentation on school events, communication with families and the resources offered to parents.

In addition to being a childcare facility, it also provides opportunities for future teachers in the college’s Early Childhood Education program to observe child behavior.

Enrollment in the Lab School is open to the community. For more information, visit www.alvincollege.edu.
