The college received $346,659 from the $5.6 million fund for the New Beginnings program which will go towards providing training and education to students recently released from incarceration or are soon to be released. "It will also help connect those students to employers as they finish their education," said Gayland Capps, ACC grants coordinator. The New Beginnings program, created in partnership with Lee College, will help students in technical programs to finish their education, Capps said. ACC was one of 18 programs to receive funds from the Texas Talent Connection Grants. The awards were announced by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on July 6. "Meeting the changing needs of job creators and providing a continuing pipeline of skilled workers is paramount to ensure Texas remains the top state for business expansion," Abbott said in a release. "With the more than $5.5 million in Texas Talent Connection grants, we are connecting more employers to work-ready skilled Texans and more Texans to in-demand skills training for higher-paying jobs and career advancement -- creating a more prosperous Texas for all." ACC's grant funding will go towards training and job placement for 100 students and will start in November 2021. The Texas Talent Connection Grants are awarded by the Texas Workforce Investment Council and administered by the Texas Workforce Commission.
