ACC Regents Approve 2023-24 Tax Rate
Alvin Community College regents unanimously approved the 2023-24 fiscal year tax rate during their meeting on September 28.
The rate of 15.12 cents per $100 of appraised property value includes 14.34 cents for maintenance and operations and .78 cents for voter approved debt. The rate is a penny less than the 16.4 cents approved for the last fiscal year.
The board held a public hearing on the tax rate prior to the board meeting.
The $45.97 million budget was approved by the board during their meeting in August.
In other action, regents unanimously approved a five-year lease agreement for 14,000 square-feet in a facility in the Manvel region. The $750,000 start-up costs will include the first nine months of the lease, equipment, facility updates and more.
ACC will offer courses at the facility through its corporate college initiative which provides certification programs tailored to the needs of local employers. The region has experienced immense growth over the past years with the population projected to increase 13 percent over the next 10 years.
The college plans to offer a diverse array of skills for workers in patient care, marketing, biotechnology, project management, business analytics, web design and more.
Improving services to the west side of the college district has been a long term strategic goals set by the ACC board of regents.
During the meeting, the board also heard a report from Institutional Effectiveness and Research Dean/Executive Director Pat Sanger regarding enrollment for Fall 2023. The projected enrollment numbers for the Fall semester is 5,281 which is 2 percent higher than the certified enrollment for Fall 2022.
According to the enrollment report, 55 percent of ACC students are taking courses on the main campus while 42 percent are taking courses through Dual Enrollment. The report also showed that 51 percent of ACC students are from outside the district while the remaining are from inside the district.
The board also:
-received update about $362,296 contract for remediation project for Building N
-approved renewal of interlocal agreement with Brazoria County Health Department to provide services in the event of an emergency
-approved contract for EBSCO Library Services
-approved participation in the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer program to begin in Spring 2024
-approved monthly financial reports
-approved amendment to the president’s contract
The board will have its next meeting on October 26 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
