ACC Students Named to All State Choir

Alvin Community College had nine students who were recently named to the Texas Music Educators Association All State Choir for 2024.

The students recently performed at the association’s annual convention in San Antonio.

“I am proud of these students for their hard work in preparing the music for the Texas Two-Year College All State Choir,” said Dr. Kevin Moody, ACC Choir director.

All State Choir members were: Kate Bonaobra, alto; Carissa Campos, soprano;  Lillian Cocek, alto; Jareth Doerr, bass; Nia Jones, soprano; Francisco Juarez, bass; Christiaan Kunneke, tenor; Imani Mueti, tenor and Ira Navarro, tenor.

The Choir members were chosen after an audition process in November. The students rehearsed over four days leading up to the conference.

“These culminated in a performance by the 160-voice choir for an enthusiastic audience,” Moody said. “The experience is inspiring for these young musicians and motivating as they pursue their passion for music.”

The Two Year Choral Directors Association was created to give community college students to sing at the direction of a nationally recognized director. This year’s director was Dr. Karen Kenaston-French, director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas Arlington.
