ACC Students Named to All State Choir

Five Alvin Community College students were named to the Texas All-State Choir and performed at the Texas Music Educators Association conference in San Antonio on February 9-12.

ACC Choir members Andre Alberca, tenor, Pearland; Laura Rogers, alto, Santa Fe; Jason Rojas, baritone, Pearland; Graciela Sanchez, alto, Alvin; and Morgan White, soprano, Angleton were selected for the All State Choir.

“I am excited to take these five students to the 2022 Texas Two Year College All State Choir as a part of the Texas Music Educators Association Conference,” Choir Director Dr. Kevin Moody said. “Last year’s event was cancelled due to COVID so I am especially proud of these singers for their efforts to learn the music and successfully audition. Their five days in San Antonio will be an inspiring time of rehearsals, comradery, and beautiful music-making.”

The Choir members were chosen after an audition among other college students in the region.

The Two Year Choral Directors Association was created to give community college students to sing at the direction of a nationally recognized director.

“This year’s clinician is the gifted conductor from Baylor University, Dr. Lynn Gackle,” Moody said. “She has chosen a lovely program that is as challenging as it is fun so, the students are looking forward to it.”

The All State Choir members are part of the ACC Community Chorus. They will have their annual Spring concert on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the ACC Theatre. It is free and open to the public.
