ACC Awards Day
Alvin Community College recognized several students for academic excellence during the Award Day ceremony on May 1.
Among the winners included Jonathan Root and Angelice Smith who received the President’s Award.
Root is a native of Alvin and is pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Mental Health and Addiction Counseling. He has volunteered in the community while also serving as president of the Pride Alliance for LGBTQ students.
Smith is an Army veteran and is pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Psychology as an Honors student. While a student she became a vice president of scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa honors society and a member of the Psi Beta Psychology honor society.
Many students were honored and awarded scholarships during the ceremony. The scholarships were awarded by several ACC departments, the ACC Foundation and civic organizations including Soroptimist International of Alvin and Alvin Sunrise Rotary.
