ACC Hosts Artist BeSomeone

When it comes to being an artist, a visiting Alvin Community College artist said his message is really simple: Be Someone. He made the expression his name.

The anonymous graffiti artist who goes by the alias BeSomeone recently displayed some of his work at the ACC Fine Arts gallery. The artist is known for his “BeSomeone” mural painted on a bridge over a Houston highway.

“I’m excited to be here,” he said. “I want (the message) out there to inspire everyone else.”

The display of paintings and a mural was featured in an exhibit over the past month. A reception with the artist was held at the gallery on March 27. Students were on hand to meet the artist and learn more about his work and how he creates it.

“A lot of youth look up to him and he’s very motivational,” said Angela Duron Larson, ACC Visual Arts coordinator.

ACC hosts two visiting artists exhibits every year. Larson previously taught BeSomeone as a student when he first began his career as an artist.

“His graffiti art has become iconic,” she said “This is an important message to stay positive.”
