ACC Drama Seeking Community Talent

The Alvin Community College Drama Department is looking to add talented actors from the community to joint the casts of its upcoming season.

"We have always had community involvement in ACC Theatre, but it fell off a bit during the pandemic, and we want to be sure that everyone knows that everyone in the community is welcome to participate," said Dr. Jay Burton, Drama Department chair.

The Department will host a roundtable discussion for those who are interested in on Friday, May 27 at the Theatre.

“"In order to gauge the level of interest, we are having a roundtable discussion for anyone in the area interested in theatre,” Burton said. “This brief discussion will be in the ACC Theatre. If someone is interested but cannot attend the meeting, we are asking that they fill out a very brief questionnaire online.”

The Drama Department typically puts on five shows in a season with a performances in October, a Christmas production and a Spring musical followed by two plays during the Summer Children’s Theatre Festival.

Productions have often included actors from the community in addition to students in the ACC Drama program.

"Community involvement has always been one of the unique aspects of ACC Theatre,” Burton said. “Having community members and students in the same productions make for better shows. I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in in doing anything with theatre, to let us know.”

For those who might be a little shy on the stage, there are other ways they can participate in the Drama productions, he said.

“We are always looking for talent and interest, both onstage and backstage," Burton said. "Even if someone has never actually done any theatre, but is interested, we would welcome them. We have a really great time putting shows together."

The roundtable discussion will be Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Theatre.
