ACC Drama Announces 2022-23 Season

A classic tale of suspense, a ghosts of the Christmas season and the story of a composer seeking their big break make up the performances  for the Alvin Community College Drama Department’s 2022-23 season.

This season will be the first for Drama director Christopher Tennison, who took over the position in the Fall.

“It is an honor to be back at ACC as the new theater director and instructor for Drama,” he said. “As a student here 29 years ago, I was given the foundational skills that lead to a very successful theatre career, and I am so pleased to be continuing Dr. Burton's legacy of excellent theatre experiences here in Alvin. Our 45th season has something for everyone:  A thrilling adaptation of Victorian horror, our 28th family holiday offering, a beautiful musical about the power of dreaming, and our annual Children's Theatre Festival!”

The season will kick off with The Turn of the Screw,  which will run from October 8-15. A Christmas Carol will run from December 3-10. The spring musical tick, tick… Boom will be performed March 4-11.

The productions for the Summer Children’s Theatre Festival will be The Journey of Little Red and Law and Order Fairy Tale Unit on June 19-22 and July 24-27, respectively.

The Turn of the Screw is a suspenseful play based on the iconic novella about a young governess who travels to an English manor to care for two orphans.

“We are excited to open our season with a terrifying adaptation of the Henry James Classic,” Tennison said. “We look forward to providing some thrills and chills as we enter the Halloween season.”

Performances on October 8 and 13-15 will be at 7:30 p.m. There will be a 2:30 p.m. performance on October 9.

The holiday play, A Christmas Carol, is an adaptation of the classic story from Charles Dickens about Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey to redemption during the Christmas season.

“For our 28th annual holiday show we couldn't think of a better title than A Christmas Carol,” Tennison said. “Written for a five-person cast playing dozens of Dicken's characters, this family favorite will be a must see!”

Performances on December 3 and 8-10 will be at 7:30 p.m. There will be a 2:30 p.m. performance on December 4.

The Spring musical tick, tick… Boom!  will be about the life and music of a legendary Broadway composer looking for their big break.

“This semi-autobiographical piece is based on the life of Jonathan Larson, the writer of the Broadway sensation Rent,” Tennison said. “This piece explores the struggles we face as we pursue our passions and dreams.”

Performances on March 4 and 9-11 will be at 7:30 p.m. There will be a 2:30 p.m. performance on March 5.

Performances for The Journey of Little Red will be at 10 a.m. on June 19-22 with a 7:30 p.m. performance on June 22. Law and Order Fairy Tale Unit will be performed July 24-27 at 10 a.m. and a 7:30 p.m. performance on July 27.
