ACC to Offer Engineering Degree with UHCL

Alvin Community College is forming a partnership with the University of Houston Clear Lake-Pearland to offer an Associate Degree and Bachelor Degree of Engineering.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recently issued its approval for the program which is set to begin in August 2022.

“To partner with UHCL with our Associate Degree Engineering program of study is a perfect example of how collaboration between higher education institutions benefits every stakeholder,” said Dr. Robert J. Exley, ACC president. “First and foremost, students have an affordable path to completion of the Bachelor Degree in Engineering. Second, our ACC students are exemplary with their commitment to excellence and their ability to master the engineering curriculum. I could not be prouder of ACC and UHCL.”

The program was first approved by ACC regents in January 2021.

Under the terms of the program, ACC students will be able to earn their Associate Degree in Engineering and then seamlessly transfer to the University of Houston Clear Lake-Pearland campus to complete their Bachelor Degree.

“We are excited that ACC is offering an Associate Degree in Engineering,” UCHL President Dr. Ira K. Blake said. “There are numerous benefits to students, but the ability to complete a degree more quickly in a familiar environment should enhance degree completion rates.  This will place more ACC and UH-Clear Lake engineers in the workforce.  Additionally, the relationships students will build with both faculty and industry will serve both institutions well.  I look forward to working with Dr. Exley and his team on other ways we can work together in service to students, industry, and our shared communities.”

ACC is currently developing a prospectus for the program that must be approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
