ACC E-Sports Reaches National Competition

The Alvin Community College E-sports team reached the final the NJCAA Intramural Valorant National Title during its first year of competition.

This is the first year for the college to host an E-sports team. Team coach and Distance Education Director Dr. Huff Mann said he is proud of the progress the E-sports players made during its inaugural season.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the group of students who helped me put this team together,” said Mann. “This was new to all of us, and they did a great job of learning how online competition works.  But, the thing that impressed me most of all was the selflessness they demonstrated by making a commitment and then following through.  Our next season is going to be fun! “

The team was eliminated from the tournament by DuPage College in the national title match on April 21.

Players on the team include: Gabriel Valenzona, Joanna Valenzona, Danny Trinh, Allen Limbaga, Robert Atkinson and Sean Pham.

ACC was one of eight teams throughout the country to play in the first E-sports Valorant tournament. Volarant is a popular, five-person, tactical shooter game. It is one of eight games in included in NJCAA E-sports competition.
