ACC Foundation Raises Funds for Timpani Drums

The Alvin Community College Community Band percussion section will carry a richer tone after they recently acquired a new set of timpani drums.

The drums were funded through a donation drive from the ACC Foundation.

“The music department is very thankful to the ACC foundation for helping to purchase our new Ludwig timpani,” ACC Band director David Griffith said. “As with many programs the college Foundation helps to provide quality equipment for our students to learn on. These instruments will help fill that need in the Music Department.”

Providing assistance to the Music program is part of the Foundation’s goal of supporting the college’s mission, said Wendy Del Bello, Foundation executive director.

“For 30 years the band has been a part of our community performing several times each year,” Del Bello said. “This donation will be instrumental in continuing the band’s excellent reputation.”

The drums were purchased to replace older equipment, Griffith said.

“Our old timpani were over 50 years old and  at the end of their usable life,” he said. “These new drums are professional quality and will serve our music majors who are percussionists as well as our ACC bands for many years to come.”
